For several years it has proved impossible for RE-XS to be effectively updated. Although it has continued to receive hundreds of user visits every week, its usefulness has diminished. It suffers from broken links and lack of vitality. Accordingly Carolyn Reade and Brian Gates from the University of Cumbria have resolved to withdraw it as an active website. When it was launched in the early 1990s, it served as probably the first comprehensive internet gateway to websites and facilities on religions and religious education anywhere in the world. Now there are many such sites.

Two other ELMAR (Electronic Media and Religions) sites remain active. In different ways, both are in need of refurbishment and extension. However, they are still distinctive in their content, and of ongoing relevance for students and teachers. Accordingly, access to them will be maintained for the time being, in hopes that they can be replenished and further developed.

They are PHILTAR with its massive Compendium of Philosophers and Enclyclopaedia of Religions: philtar.ucsm.ac.uk

And YBGUD an original resource site for Christian Ethics and Moral Education: www.ybgud.net
